Third Sunday of Advent
December 15, 2024
Zephaniah 3:14-20
Isaiah 12:2-6
Philippians 4:4-7
Luke 3:7-18
Our gracious, eternal God, we come before you today with gratitude. Grant that we may also find within us the spirit of rejoicing. Help us with Paul to “…rejoice in the Lord always.”
Give to us an attitude which looks on life and says that it is good.
Give to us an attitude which is hopeful.
Give to us an attitude which is able to look upon the difficulties and worries of life and to be undaunted by them.
Give to us an attitude and will to live life in the present moment and not worry about those moments which are coming and which may or may not hold foreboding.
Give to us an attitude which is insistent on finding the good in life and rejoicing over it.
Give to us an attitude which Paul suggests so that we may pray with thanksgiving as we make our requests to you.
Give to us an attitude which is able to possess your peace which passes all understanding.
Walk with us through this advent season, transforming the thinking of our minds so that we might reflect the joy in the good news of the gospel. You have made us new people. In our behaviours may we demonstrate hope and triumph. Release us from all negativity and defeatism and give us victory over all the principalities and power of earth.
We ask your care for our fragile world, O Prince of Peace. Grant to all peoples the vision of a world made new. Grant us the will to work for peace and to find alternative ways of resolving national and international conflict. Grant to all people the will to refuse to take up arms and go to war. Lead us in the ways of peace, O Prince of Peace. Amen
