Fourth Sunday of Advent
December 22, 2024
Micah 5:2-5a
Luke 1:46b-55 or Psalm 80:1-7
Hebrews 10:5-10
Luke 1:39-45, (46-55)
O holy One, we thank you that as we hear the ancient story of your mysterious workings in Jesus from different places in Scripture we hear the same echoes of your mercy and grace. We are reminded that it is you who look with favour upon us as you did with Mary. It is you who have come to us and embraced us with your everlasting love. We do not need to find you for we have already been found by your love.
Be with those for whom this particular Christmas will be difficult.
Be with those who have known the bitterness of grief.
Be with those who know hardship or want.
Be with those whose lives have become unstable or uncertain.
Be with those whose health is compromised.
Be with those whose business or jobs are in jeopardy.
Remind us as we go through dark valleys that we go not alone.
Remind us that the light of the world cannot be extinguished by the darkness.
Remind us that even in darkness there is the possibility of hope within the human breast.
Remind us that you cradle us with your love as once you cradled the world in Jesus.
Remind us that you wish us to be victorious people who overcome the world.
Be with those whose hope is diminished today. Be with the homeless, the weary, the over-worked, the hungry, the refugees, the suffering children of the world, and hold them close to you. May a better world be born: a world with love, justice, and peace. Amen
