Transfiguration Sunday
February 9, 2025
Exodus 34:29-35
Psalm 99
2 Cor. 3:12-4:2
Luke 9:28-36(37-43)
O holy One, we bow before the mystery of your workings in Jesus. Like the disciples of old we too have great difficulty in moving from the old to the new. We want to frame things in ways we can understand even though the mystery is beyond words and beyond description. We are bound by our limited past and our limited conceptions. Lead us this day to the place where all things are made new. Lead us to the mountain top as Jesus led his disciples.
Lead us to the mountain top where we can be changed.
Lead us to the mountain top where we can have a vision of a world made new.
Lead us to the mountain top where we can have our limited vision corrected.
Lead us to the mountain top where we might hear the radical voice and leading of Jesus.
Lead us to the mountain top where we can see more clearly the tasks to which you call us.
Lead us to the mountain top where we can be commissioned to go and serve this world even as did Jesus after his descent.
LEAD US, O GOD, TO THE MOUNTAIN TOP!
Give to us the vision and the will to embrace this world of need. Where any of your people suffer we pray for a way to assist them. Where any of your people are sick we pray for the opportunity to visit them. Where any of your people hunger we pray for a way to feed them. Where any of your people are oppressed we pray for a way to provide them with justice. Where any of your people are in poverty we pray for a way to build an economic order that provides them opportunity. Be with your church throughout the world.
Help us to go together to the mountain top and to join hand in hand to serve this world and to present it with the good news. Amen
