Proper 10 (15)
July 13, 2025
Amos 7:7-17 or Deuteronomy 30:9-14
Psalm 82 or Psalm 25:1-10
Colossians 1:1-14
Luke 10:35-37
Eternal God, we come this day to hear again your Word of grace.
We come to have you illumine the darker corners of our lives.
We come to find comfort where we have aching, hurt, and pain.
We come to receive once again support and love from our sisters and brothers.
We come to receive forgiveness for our sins and failures.
We come to be renewed for our journey.
We pray that we may know a profound sense of your love and acceptance and have confidence that we are among those who by faith know your grace.
Like the rich ruler we know the two simple commandments which sum up the law. But like him we are stung in our spirits by Jesus’ story of the Good Samaritan.
We are as prone to be repelled by people who are different as were those two who walked by and would not get involved because he was a Samaritan.
We are as prone to be too busy to stop.
We are as prone not to want to be bothered.
We are as prone to want someone else to help and to wish his problem away.
We are as prone to be insensitive to the sufferings of others.
Make us reflective in those moments when we would reject another person. Help us to choose on the side of inclusiveness and learn to curb the common human bent toward rejection and exclusiveness. Temper our hatreds. Temper our penchant for believing the worst of people. Temper our prejudices. Lead us one day to unity and peace and to love all your people. Amen
