Luke 10:38-42

O holy one, ever trying to influence and touch the hearts of your people, we thank you today for the opportunity to pause, to worship, and to reflect upon the direction our lives are taking.  We confess that we so easily lose our focus.  There is so much of Martha residing within us.
Like Martha we too often live in that land of resentment where we feel put upon and used, never quite acknowledging that it is we who choose that position.
Like Martha we become anxious and distracted when we feel overwhelmed and we unexpectedly lash out at those around us.
Like Martha we become distracted from where our true focus ought to be and we get lost in a whirlwind of details.
Like Martha we often fail to know how to stop the downward spirals in which we find ourselves.
Like Martha we become people of worry rather than people of trust and confidence.

Correct us and make us more like Mary.

Make us people who are able to sort out life and set meaningful priorities.
Make us people who are teachable and who learn from the ancient wisdom of the Word.
Make us people who are attentive to our inner lives and who are constantly growing.
Make us people who invest our time in others and in things which make a difference in the lives of others.
Make us people who are more like Mary.  Amen
