Eternal God, we thank you for sunny and gentle summer days, for a world so beautiful, for long days with early sunrises and lingering evenings and spectacular sunsets.  We thank you for the mountains which have varied and different looks and which are a constant reminder of whence comes our help.

On such a day as this, lazy as it may seem, we ask that you would challenge us to a greater vision for which we have previously lacked courage.  Remind us that in looking back we also look forward to today’s challenges.

Remind us that Jesus, supremely gifted, nonetheless called seventy others to go before him and prepare his way because he could not carry on his tasks without help.
Remind us that we too are your hands and voice today and we are needed as were they.
Remind us that our task as a church is not to be happily cloistered looking inward but to be your labourers in your harvest today.
Remind us, whenever we feel inadequate for the task before us, that we are told to trust you and to step forward with boldness and trust.
Remind us that we are called to be peacemakers and to bring the message of peace to others.
Remind us that we have a ministry to the sick and the needy and we are called to bear your message of a victorious life to all peoples.

O God, give us power in our time.  Startle us as those seventy were startled by the results of their witness.  Give us power to live the good news, to proclaim the good news, and to lead and love others to the good news.  Make us bold in your service. Amen
