Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31
Psalm 8
Romans 5:1-5
John 16:12-15
O holy one, ever mysterious to us, yet ever in and among us, we thank you for your placing within us a quest for truth. We thank you for your hidden prodding toward new discoveries. We thank you that however much we gain of the truth we still remain unfinished because life is always an up and down journey and we cannot contain it all. Be with us on our journey and lead us as the disciples were led to embrace new and exciting truths as we are able to receive them.
Lead us in those times of stagnation when we feel nothing is happening and when we seem to be stuck in place.
Lead us in those times when discouragement seems to overwhelm us and we think the quest for truth is futile.
Lead us in those times when a new idea threatens some of our long-held beliefs and we become fearful.
Lead us in those times when the light dawns on some new idea or truth and we become excited and renewed.
Lead in those times when a truth we hold dear comes in conflict with a truth someone else holds dear and there is conflict. In such times help us to be gracious and open rather than judgmental and rejecting.
Lead us ever onward with the confidence that you have “more light and truth to reveal to us from your word.” (John Robinson)
May your spirit lead us onward, be patient with us, and lead us into all truth. Be with the church and all faiths throughout the earth and help us to engage in respectful dialogue and come to greater understanding and unity of spirit. Amen
