Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 25, 2025
Acts 16:9-15
Psalm 67
Rev. 21:10,22-22:5
John 14:23-29 or 5:1-9
Eternal One, you provide hope for your people in the most difficult of times and in Jesus gave us the promise of peace.
Be with us when our hope has worn thin.
Be with us when we wonder about tomorrow.
Be with us when the events of life cause us to question and wonder about your ways.
Be with us when there is injustice among any of your people.
In such times cause us to experience your power that we might be renewed. Remind us of those comforting words of peace which you brought so gently to your friends when they were afraid of the future. May those words register with our souls and overcome our resistance.
We resist and oftentimes shrink back from the new.
We resist and prefer to linger in the old because even when the old is worn out and ceases to work at least it is familiar and comfortable.
We resist the new because it might involve us in changes which we are not sure we can master and achieve.
We resist the new because it might involve us with people with whom we are uncomfortable.
O God of the new, O God of change, O God of adventure, O God of all peoples, make all things new, you who made your home with mortals and dwelt and dwell among us.
Deepen our ability to trust. Deepen our ability to take one day at a time. Deepen our ability to love. Deepen our ability to entrust all of our dear ones to you. Deepen our sense that this is your world and that you love it and brood over it even still. Deepen our compassion for all who suffer. Amen
