Third Sunday of Easter
May 4, 2025
Acts 9:1-6, (7-20)
Psalm 30
Revelation 5:11-14
John 21:1-19
O God, we hear the ancient challenge of Jesus to Peter reverberating through our history and challenging us once again as he asked Peter if he loved him. We too struggle and squirm for an honest answer.
Do we love you enough to reorder our lives and set new priorities for ourselves?
GIVE US THE COURAGE TO ANSWER HONESTLY.
Do we love you enough to feed your lambs, to tend your sheep, to feed your sheep?
GIVE US THE COURAGE TO ANSWER HONESTLY.
Do we love you enough to love people and not possessions?
GIVE US THE COURAGE TO ANSWER HONESTLY.
Do we love you enough to commit a portion of our time and talents to serving others?
GIVE US THE COURAGE TO ANSWER HONESTLY.
Do we love you enough to sacrifice and to share the goods we possess in order that those who are deprived may have a place at life’s table, an opportunity to gain an education, and a chance to know justice?
GIVE US THE COURAGE TO ANSWER HONESTLY.
Do we love you enough to proclaim to the world the hope and vision of our faith?
GIVE US THE COURAGE TO ANSWER HONESTLY.
Gentle Jesus, may we hear your challenge to love wherever you call us to encounter our sisters and brothers. Break through our obtuseness and our resistance and persist in challenging us as you persisted with Peter. Lead us in our commitment to follow you. Lead us to say with our actions: “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” May we invite others to share in your eternal banquet. Amen
