Matthew 21:23-32
Eternal God, we thank you that you have placed us within your church. We thank you for the great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us and who carried the lamp of faith to our generation. And we thank you that we now, for a time, have the responsibility to hold it aloft for others.
Let the “same mind be in us (you) that was in Christ.” Help us to be faithful to the heavenly vision in this place.
Give us will and resolve.
Give us the resolve to put our gifts and talents forward for your use and for others.
Give us the resolve to support and encourage the gifts of others.
Give us the resolve to build up a stalwart community with vision and daring and service to our world.
Give us the resolve to nurture a loving, caring community which reaches out always to the least of your children.
Give us the resolve to help you put a tap on the shoulder of young people with the gifts to consider some form of ministry.
Give us the resolve to commit our lives and energy on the side of justice and equity for all of the peoples of the earth.
Give us the resolve to right the wrongs and the discrimination of the past and to transcend prejudice and racism.
And give us the resolve to be a people of peace who work for peace.
Cause us to be strong in faith, loyal in service, and patient in hope. Work in us your way, you who are the ageless potter working your clay. Amen
