Psalm 1
I Thessalonians 2:1-8
Matthew 22:34-46
Our gracious, eternal God, help us this day to draw our minds and spirits from the hectic confusion of the week.
Take our minds from all that would distract us.
Take from us our cares, our fears, our apprehension about our tomorrows.
Take from us our resentments, our angers, and all that is negative and destructive, every tendency to want to get even for some perceived wrong.
Take from us our concerns about earthly treasures and our avaricious desires.
Take from us our lethargy regarding our spiritual journey.
Take from us our hatred toward our enemies, however demonically they have acted.
Take from us all efforts to act deceitfully and to veil the truth from others.
Take our minds from all of this.
Help us to focus on your grace which is extended to the greatest of sinners. May we be bathed by your love today, a love which will not let us go. May we be filled with a trust that floods our souls with peace and love. May we be transformed.
Give us leaders with the courage to present the gospel clearly even in the face of opposition. Give them and us integrity as we walk together. Give us a church where there is straight forward communication, where there are no ulterior motives, where there is no false flattery, where there is no greed, where our main motivation is to seek to do your will and not seek the praise of others, where there is mutuality and love.
Give us victory and mastery in our common life. Amen
