Luke 15:1-10

Our gracious, eternal God, we thank you for this Sunday which begins a new program year for our church.  Fill us today with excitement.
Fill us with excitement for our children and young people as they begin their study and fellowship.
Fill us with excitement for the inquiring minds of adults as we too return to more disciplined study.
Fill us with excitement for the opportunity of stretching our minds.

We would ask your blessing on all these ventures.  Deepen our faith, increase our understanding, enlarge our dreams, and further our commitment to be your faithful people in this place.

We bring before you our cares and our needs.  The world continues to know episodes of violence.  The level of anxiety and apprehension for many people is great. Right now the world needs your quieting and steadying peace.  Bring calm to our souls when the waves of life roll high.  Give us the assurance that you will meet us in every storm of life.  Give us the assurance that we are always in your care.  And help us to cast all of our cares upon you who love us with an everlasting love.

Continue to teach us of the depths of your love for humankind.  When we are weary of evil and people we regard as evil remind us that Jesus reached out to sinners.  When we feel self-content remind us that you reach out to the one who is lost and rejoice when one of your children again is found or finds the way home.

Overwhelm us once again with your searching love that would not only find the lost one but would bring healing and love and forgiveness.  Give to your church the love which searches for the lost. Amen
