Trinity Sunday
May 26, 2024
Isaiah 6:1-8
Psalm 29
Romans 8:12-17
John 3:1-17
O eternal God of the ages, ineffable in mystery, beyond our comprehension, yet placing an insatiable desire for you within the human breast, we bow in awe and humility this day. With your people from all ages we bow, we worship, and we say:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of (your) glory.”
Like Isaiah we know that we are not worthy to approach you. But also like him, we have the tenacity to hold on and insist that we too have seen you.
We have seen you when as a child we became aware of your mystery.
We have seen you when we have beheld the wonders of our created world with its splendour and its majesty and color.
We have seen you when we have seen selfless acts of mercy and compassion performed by one of your caring children.
We have seen you in those quiet moments when your presence made an indelible impression upon us and we were aware that you have appointed us a destiny to fulfill.
We have seen you in the courage of those who remind us that there is a moral order which demands justice for all your children.
Renew our covenant with you this day. Blot out our sins and cause our guilt to depart. Help us to live victorious lives because we have been cleansed by your grace and mercy. And fit us to respond to your call as did Isaiah and say: “Here am I, send me.” Send us and use us, O God. Amen
